Overview: This position is for a part-time, summer agricultural gardener on a private estate in the mid-Cape area of Cape Cod. The position runs late May through early September. The position is between 24 to 30 hours a week. Start and end dates can be flexible, but an ideal candidate will have availability for the duration of the aforementioned employment time, with weekend availability being important. You would be joining our team of dedicated gardeners in maintaining the agricultural plantings on our extensive grounds. We strive to provide an exceptional level of gardening, with a focus on plant health, aesthetics, and attention to detail. We use organic horticultural and agricultural practices, and we are committed to using ecologically sensitive land care practices, as well as fostering biodiversity in our plantings.

Responsibilities/Duties

Under the guidance of the Head Gardener and the general supervision of the Agricultural Crew Foreperson, the Summer Agricultural Gardener performs gardening and related work on the grounds, specifically focused on the cultivation of vegetable, herb, tropical, and berry crops. 

  • Engage in all aspects of agricultural gardening on the grounds; including planting, cultivating, watering, fertilizing, harvesting, storing, pruning, weeding, mulching, staking, pest and disease monitoring; and other aspects of caring for vegetables, herbs, tropicals, and berries.
  • Operate and maintain hand and power gardening tools and small equipment.
  • Perform general landscape maintenance, such as raking; leaf removal; blowing/sweeping of hardscape; power washing/scrubbing of pots, equipment, and hardscape; and litter removal.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Experience in farming, gardening, propagating, or other agricultural fields
  • Knowledge of plant types, plant care, and plant cultivation
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of gardening tools and equipment
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive pickup truck on and off estate property
  • Experience with small equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to lift objects of various shapes and sizes weighing 40lbs or more
  • Ability to bend, crouch, and lift for multiple hours a day
  • Ability to work both individually and collaboratively

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
Schedule:

  • 6-8 hour shift, 7:30am-4pm
  • Part-time, 24 to 30 hours a week
  • Seasonal work - late May through early September
