The Senior Horticulturist plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of care provided at larger, more challenging sites under Greenery NYC's care. Serving as the primary contact for assigned sites, the senior horticulturist holds ultimate responsibility and acts as a liaison between interior clients and management. This role requires advanced proficiency in tropical plant care, including plant identification, pest management, watering schedules, and irrigation systems troubleshooting. This is a full time position.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provide exceptional plant care to Greenery's most valued, high profile clients both independently and with a team and coworkers
  • Serve as the main point of contact for assigned sites, maintaining superior communication and relations with onsite contacts.
  • Demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills to independently troubleshoot issues with a proactive approach.
  • Effectively communicate via email with clients regarding scheduling and replacements, maintaining professionalism and promptness.
  • Collaborate with Account Managers, Horticulturists 1, Maintenance Ops Manager, and other staff to ensure outstanding site maintenance and prompt resolution of client needs.
  • Uphold professionalism, good judgment, and a superior work ethic, providing training and mentoring to junior colleagues.
  • Ensure prompt submission of site notes and Monday.com tasks
  • Adherence to schedules, and punctuality, setting an example for others.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating and troubleshooting automated irrigation systems used within Greenery NYC, including timers, irrigation settings, green walls, nutrient injectors, and Hydrawise interface.
  • Possess working knowledge of exterior plants and their care needs, adjusting irrigation levels, pruning, and treating plants in outdoor client spaces.
  • Display advanced knowledge of interior plants, including species-specific care requirements, light levels, pest and disease diagnosis, and proper planting and pruning techniques.

  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities, capable of independently troubleshooting issues with a proactive mindset.
  • Proficiency in email communication, maintaining professionalism and promptness in client interactions.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, good judgment, and a superior work ethic, with the ability to mentor and train junior colleagues.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting automated irrigation systems, including timers, settings, and interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of exterior plants and their care needs in outdoor client spaces.
  • Advanced knowledge of interior plants, including care requirements, light levels, pest and disease diagnosis, and proper maintenance techniques.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and diverse work environment, demonstrating adaptability, resilience, and a proactive approach to handling multiple tasks and challenges simultaneously.
  • Excellent attendance.

Additional Information

Physical Demands:

  • Most work tasks are performed in a space where the environmental conditions vary widely.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours per day. 
  • Must be able to work on a ladder up to 16' tall
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the property or other areas on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. 
  • Must be able to move items weighing in excess of 50 lbs. routinely.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to perform daily tasks.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure managing multiple deadlines.
