Start Date: March 2025 Compensation: $22-25 per hour DOE
The Seasonal Farmer will report to the Farm Coordinator and is responsible for supporting the agricultural operations of a residential farm in Glen Head on Long Island, NY. The Seasonal Farmer will learn about and support the growth and harvest of annual vegetables, perennials, orchards, and berries, in addition to beekeeping, caring for egg-laying chickens, food preserving, and additional projects.
This role is offered seasonally from the beginning of March through the end of November with some flexibility on start/end dates. This role is full-time, 40-45 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a regular schedule of 8am – 4pm. The schedule may shift throughout the season based on weather and the needs of the farm. Occasionally, longer days or weekend work may be needed.
We are looking for a motivated, hardworking individual with prior farming experience to join our small team!
Responsibilities/Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain and care for the farm and surrounding land including seasonal preparations, planting, harvesting, weeding, etc.
- Complete daily activities as guided by the Farm Coordinator to ensure farm stays on track with the schedule of production
- Pack and sort produce, group/arrange flowers, and package farm-made products
- Support production of farm-derived products (jam, honey, soap etc.)
- Adhere to organic standards and, where possible, biodynamic practices
- Identify and manage disease and pest problems
Qualifications/Requirements
- At least 12 months experience working on an agricultural farm
- Basic knowledge of harvesting, processing, seed starting, field planting and transplants, field maintenance, irrigation, bed prep planting, harvesting, and cleaning produce
- Understanding of organic and/or biodynamic practices a plus
- Experience caring for chickens and/or bees a plus
- Experience with light farm machinery a plus
- Proactive and self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- Organized, ability to manage tasks and time efficiently and meet deadlines
- Positive and solutions oriented with a problem-solving mindset
- Strong communication skills
- Works well independently and as part of a team
- Ability to take direction and willingness to learn and improve skills
- Passion for farming and learning, flexible to varying tasks
- Ability and willingness to complete physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions that can be physically demanding (harvesting, planting, weeding, digging, etc.)
- Ability to stand, crouch, sit for long periods of time
- Good dexterity and fine motor skills (sowing, harvest, washing, etc.)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs safely and perform repetitive tasks
- Valid US driver’s license and clean driving record
- Legally able to work in the US

Benefits
- 1 hour of sick time accrued for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours
- Overtime pay (1.5x hourly rate) for holidays worked
