Queens County Farm Museum is one of the longest continually farmed sites in New York State, dating back to 1697. As a designated New York City Landmark and a site on the National Register of Historic Places, Queens Farm welcomes over 500,000 visitors annually. It connects people to agriculture, colonial history and the environment, offering learning opportunities on biodiversity, health and wellness, climate change, and the preservation of local history.
The farm hosts a variety of acclaimed education programs, public events, and adult education opportunities. It also operates a year-round Farm Store and numerous seasonal farmstands onsite and with community partners. The 47-acre site features nine buildings, including the historic Adriance Farmhouse (c.1772), a Farm Store, and a Greenhouse (1926), along with growing fields, animal paddocks, composting areas, and an apiary. Queens Farm is a fully operational farm with livestock, vegetable production, and farm equipment.
The Opportunity
Seasonal Farm Crew Members will be involved in all aspects of farm related work, including propagation, transplanting, cultivating, weeding, crop maintenance, harvest, post-harvest washing and packing, record-keeping. Farmers will be involved with farmstands, interacting with the public and leading volunteers, helping with the corn maze, livestock chores, and general grounds maintenance.
Responsibilities/Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support implementation of the crop plan (propagation, transplanting, cultivating, weeding, crop maintenance, harvesting, post-harvest washing and packing, record-keeping, and more).
- Assist with livestock chores, the corn maze, the farmstands, volunteers, a flower CSA, general ground maintenance, and other Queens Farm programs.
- Occasionally driving the farm vehicle offsite (valid driver’s license required).
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Serve as a representative of Queens Farm.
- Other related duties as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements
- At least one full season of vegetable growing experience on a production scale.
- Ability to work well in a team, take direction, seek feedback, and stay on task independently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage with members of the public.
- Ability to lift 50lbs, and kneel/stand/crouch for long periods of time in all weather conditions.
- Some livestock experience preferred.
Additional Information
Compensation This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) from 3/31/2025 to 12/05/2025. Weekend availability is required.
Pay is $20.00/hour.
