Compensation: $18/hr
PlantShed has been a family-owned and operated business immersed in the floral and botanical community since the 1950s, originating on the Upper East Side and eventually establishing a presence throughout the city and country. We are a New York-based brand that strives to make our community stronger and has developed a deep understanding and appreciation for staying current with changing trends and technology, continuing to set the standard for quality and affordability. In doing so, we have since designed and opened six new, experiential brick-and-mortar retail stores in Manhattan that combine a boutique plant and flower shop with a quaint cafe experience.
Responsibilities/Duties
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Explain care and planting instructions to customers thoroughly.
- Communicate needs to the Store Manager involving store restocks, needs, and deficiencies.
- Engage customers and be an authority on plants in the retail store environment.
- Understand and be able to educate customers on a range of plant and flower varieties.
- Assist customers in choosing plants based on customer preference and household conditions.
- Be comfortable creating custom floral arrangements based on the needs and input from our clientele.
- Maintain plants in the storefront; including watering schedules, sun rotations, and pruning.
- Facilitate transactions on our Point-of-Sale system in a friendly and timely manner.
- Ensuring product is fresh while out on the floor, cycling out imperfect and ill plants to be disposed of or returned to the greenhouse.
- Responsible for store upkeep; sweeping floors and cleaning as needed.
- Available to assist during our in-house seminars and workshops.
- Maintaining store appearance set by our Creative Director.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Complete opening and closing procedures completely and efficiently.
- Communicate needs to shift leads and Store Manager involving store needs and deficiencies.
- Greet and engage with customers. Create a friendly and welcoming retail environment.
- Understand and be able to educate customers on a range of plant and flower varieties.
- Assist customers in choosing plants based on customer preference and household conditions.
- Be comfortable creating custom floral arrangements based on the needs and input from the customer
- Maintain plants throughout the store; including watering, pruning, repotting, pest removal and cleaning.
- Facilitate transactions on our Point-of-Sale system in a friendly and timely manner.
- Maintain a clean store including dusting, sweeping and mopping floors and deep cleaning, as needed.
- Maintaining displays and store aesthetics as set by our Creative Director.
- Comfortable up-selling accessories to clients, offering and execution of additional services eg: in-store repotting.
- Works well on their own without distraction and is able to work well in a team and receive feedback
- Flexible, willing to lend a hand on projects as needed, such as workshops, installations and events.
Additional Information
Must be available to work Mother's Day and the week leading up to Mother's Day
