Compensation: $90,900 - $110,000

Dynamic landscape design firm in Brooklyn and the Hudson Valley with a diverse portfolio and a commitment to sustainable practices is seeking a Metal Shop Manager to contribute to our diverse staff of designers, fabricators, and gardeners. We design, fabricate, and install award-winning landscapes for institutions, new construction, and high-end residential projects. This job includes fabricating, finishing, and installing high-end custom metal and wood garden elements. Our goal is to achieve a high level of craft in a safe, productive, and equitable work environment.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Execute a wide range of technically‐challenging, high‐end metal garden elements – including benches, pergolas, fences, edging, amongst others
- Oversee fabrication, finishing and installation of metal elements
- Ensure that working methods are efficient and adhered to by staff
- Review and build from detailed architectural and shop drawings
- Review project details & specifications
- Analyze opportunities for value engineering and alternative means & methods of construction
- Collaborate with design staff on detailing, proto‐typing and mockups
- Work with project managers to calculate the size and amount of material needed for projects
- Work with construction manager to ensure appropriate materials and quantities are ordered and delivered on time
- Manage metal shop fabrication schedule to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget
- Work with project & wood shop managers to facilitate production of project elements
- Responsible for inventory of tools and materials at the shop
- Operate metal working tools safely and efficiently
- Oversee safety within the shop, including setting safety standards and standard operating procedures
- Assist Senior Construction Manager in oversight of fabrication and installation projects
- Assist in producing estimates for construction proposals
- Produce construction timelines for all projects
- Create material lists for each job and reach out to vendors for quotes and lead times
- Help to coordinate material orders and logistics of materials to site
Qualifications/Requirements
- Ten or more years of experience working in architectural metalworking
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the metalworking trade
- Can weld MIG/TIG/Grind; Brass/Bronze, Stainless, HR/CR Steel, Aluminum
- Experience reading and building from technical drawings
- Dependable, hard‐working, versatile, and flexible
- Ability to work within a team and independently
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Skilled at multitasking and working towards multiple deadlines
