We are a well- established company in New York City and are seeking a Manager of Horticulture. This position will be responsible for the training and development of the department as well as managing the day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate must have over 3 years of experience in a related field.

Responsibilities/Duties

A Manager of Horticulture must possess the following qualifications and competencies:

People & Management Skills

  • Ability to foster courteous and professional relationships with clientele
  • Deliver high-quality care to clients, while ensuring a respectful and unobtrusive presence in their homes.
  • Manage and direct crew members, ensuring a safe, efficient and productive work environment to provide satisfactory service and horticultural expertise
  • Manage, review labor, and allocate jobs for crews to ensure efficient use of time
  • Create and coordinate schedules for executing projects including materials, personnel and equipment
  • Work in collaboration with the internal team and clients to coordinate the execution of projects
  • Counsel, train, manage, review, and develop growth plans for employees
  • Hands on training and support of crew members, including but not limited to proper operation of equipment, pruning techniques, safety, and quality standards
  • Maintain and manage all required administrative systems, including but not limited to time sheets, service schedules, and service notes

Operational Skills

  • Manage all aspects of material sourcing, allocation, installation and execution of work ensuring company and client quality standards are met
  • Manage all gardening services, including the coordination of all materials, crew, equipment, and subcontractors required
  • Uphold and follow company procedures and protocol

Attention to Detail

  • Inspect properties and prepare a detailed action plan for service
  • Observe and document garden condition and maintenance information
  • After installation and services, monitor all aspects of the garden and identify any problems
  • Report and document garden conditions on Slack and work orders, as well as internal team

Plant Care & Maintenance Knowledge

  • Able to identify and evaluate plants, and recommend treatment options
  • Deadheading, training vines, trimming and pruning shrubs, trees, flowers, and other flora.
  • Cleaning up debris, general landscaping, mulching, digging, planting, fertilizing, applying pesticides/ fungicides
  • Perform and oversee garden work including planting, weeding, pruning, and more

Strong Time Management & Flexibility

  • Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing work schedules
  • Perform hands on work with crew to meet scheduling demands

Other

  • Familiarity with mobile tools and applications
  • Enter field work information into web-based databases in a timely manner after service is completely
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions as needed

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Degree in Horticulture OR related field experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of plants and landscape practices
  • Able to work independently, but also a collaborative team player and committed to maintaining positive engagements with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to perform physical labor and to lift up to 60 lbs
  • Able to travel to multiple job sites throughout NYC

  • Live within comfortable commuting distance to our office in West Midtown NYC
  • Experience in irrigation and/ or lighting a plus!
  • Licensed to apply pesticides A PLUS!
  • Bilingual - Spanish speaking A PLUS!
