Start Date: Immediately Compensation: 65,000 - 70,000
Trillium Landscape Design is a boutique rooftop and garden design/installation firm based in New York City. We are currently seeking a professional urban gardener/horticulturist who not only possesses a strong landscape background and comprehensive understanding of plants and plant care but also a strong sense of aesthetics and a passion for urban garden maintenance and installations.
The candidate will need to be hands on and have the ability to lead through strong communication and organization.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Assist Operation Manager with client/crew communication
- Help with the coordination of installations, maintenance, plant health care, irrigation installations, deliveries, and vendor/subcontractor visits
- Remain hands on by completing detailed horticultural and maintenance tasks at all properties.
- Oversee assistant gardeners’ work.
- Respond to client concerns and needs.
- Assist with plant designs, pick-ups, layouts and installations.
- Lead and train crews with all horticultural aspects.
- Daily recommendations for garden improvements.
- Inventory of tools and equipment and update on Google sheets.
- Keep daily logs with Google Sheet and complete weekly work hours by the following Monday morning.
- Always maintain a clean and safe job environment.
- Must maintain a valid NYS driver’s license.
Qualifications/Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of Education in Horticulture. A minimum of 7 years in the field
- Professional Experience in Urban Gardening, Landscape Maintenance and Installation in NYC.
- Excellent time management and computer skills. (Proficient in Word, Proficient in MS Office, MS Word and Excel)
- Extensive knowledge in plant, weed, disease and insect identification and plant health care.
- A well-developed skill set in planting, pruning shrubs/trees, dividing perennials, training, staking, deadheading annuals/perennials and overall garden maintenance/plant healthcare.
- Experienced with organic sprays, rooftop soil/soilless mediums/mixtures and fertilizer requirements.
- Experienced in rooftop irrigation troubleshooting, set up, repairs, spring startups and winterization.
- Understanding of landscape lighting systems and the ability to take on minor repairs and timer issues.
- Mastery all planting techniques and an eye for design.
- A positive personality that is focused on building a culture of respect and possess a strong work ethic.
- Must have the ability to work in all types of weather.
- A valid Driver’s License and the ability to drive a box truck throughout NYC
- Must be able to carry 50 lb.
