Start Date: April 1st 2025  Compensation: $35 - $42 per hour depending on experience

Samuel Lewis Landscapes LLC is a garden design, installation, and maintenance company with public and private rooftop, terrace, and backyard clients in Manhattan and Brooklyn. We are looking for a mature, friendly, responsible, honest, and hardworking head gardener to lead our crew for the 2025 growing season and beyond. This position begins April first and we will work until the first week of December. This is a salaried 4 day per week position.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Pick up the work van from our parking lot in Red Hook Brooklyn early in the morning, load up with tools, supplies, and plants, and then drive to the job site.
  • Perform the day to day maintenance of our clients’ gardens and supervise the other gardener(s) on the team to make sure that all garden tasks are performed quickly and correctly. 
  • Return to the parking lot at the end of the day, unload the van, and prepare for the next day. 
  • Write a daily report outlining time spent at each job site, materials / plants used, and notes from the clients.
  • On some days the head gardener works by themself and on some days the head gardener will lead a small team of 1-2 other gardeners.
  • Arrive on time to all job sites and quickly respond to texts, emails, and phone calls.
  • Keep tools and supplies clean and organized.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Excellent plant identification
  • Knowledge and experience working with automatic irrigation systems
  • Ability to read and write in english
  • Enthusiasm about design, art, nature, and history
  • At least 5 years working in the horticulture industry
  • Valid driver's license and experience driving in the city
  • Willingness to learn
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
