Gardener

(Paid Opportunities) Return to Paid Opportunities

Compensation: $27-$30 / hour

Harlem Horticulture is garden design, installation, and maintenance company operating mostly in Manhattan, with a handful of clients in CT and Westchester county.

Looking to a hire a full time, seasonal, gardener to help with all things horticulture for the upcoming season. This is a fast paced job and we do a lot. Even during long days the time flys by, and aside from siting in the car as we travel to/from the job site, you will never be bored.

Responsibilities/Duties

On days we work in Manhattan we will meet at the job site at 9am. On days we are working in the suburbs, we will meet in Harlem and drive together to the garden(s). I will ask if you are willing to meet at 830a/8a somedays, but it won't be that frequent and only if you are willing. Late April - early July is our busiest time of year, and you can expect to work as late as 6/7p some of those days. Otherwise we normally end around 5p. You will be paid OT for anything above 40 hours in a week. In addition to holidays, you will have multiple paid days off throughout the season.

It's a long season, beginning part time the end of March, full time by April 1st, and the season ends the first or second week of December. We spend a lot of time together and the ideal candidate will be reliable, fun, positive, and have a good attitude. Although we do a lot, we always try to have fun with everything. If you ever need a day off, or need to end a day early, that is totally fine so long as you give a little notice.

Qualifications/Requirements

Candidates with prior knowledge / experience in horticulture are preferred, but am willing to hire someone who may lack experience so long as they have a good attitude and are interested in learning.

This is a very physical job, we often have to carry a lot of large plants and heavy bags of soil up/into gardens. So someone who enjoys this physical labor aspect of the job is a must.

Additional Information

Those interested in applying: please send a resume and a brief description about your experience and a little bit about yourself (very informal).

We will then speak over the phone in greater detail about yourself and the position.
