We’re hiring a Field Operations Manager to join our small, passionate team. The ideal candidate is energetic, self-motivated, loves to learn, and has a passion for native plants and landscapes.

Responsibilities/Duties

The Field Operations Manager is responsible for the overall growing operations of the company, ensuring the production of high-quality wildflower sod through our expanding network of growing partners throughout the East Coast. You will be responsible for managing the entire sod farming process, from partner selection and setup, to quality control, harvesting, delivery and customer success. Your primary goal is to maximize production efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

  • Identifying, onboarding, and training production partners, eventually across multiple sites
  • Building strong relationships with production partners and suppliers
  • Vetting and selecting suppliers
  • Placing, tracking, and overseeing receipt of equipment and supply orders
  • Using our commercial growing guide to implement best practices for plant care, including planting schedules, fertilizer schedules, weed management, growing environment, and techniques
  • Monitoring watering times, soil conditions, and plant responses throughout the growing cycle
  • Monitoring weather conditions and making necessary adjustments for extreme temperatures
  • Managing equipment maintenance to ensure smooth farm operations
  • Developing and maintaining records of cultivation practices, procedures, and techniques
  • Ensuring growing partners comply with all local, state, and federal regulations
  • Professionally managing operations, including budgeting, capital planning, invoice processing and expense management
  • Representing Meadow Lab at professional conferences, events, and activities as needed

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Farm Management, Agriculture, Horticulture, Business Administration, or another relevant field of study, and/or compensating relevant farm operating experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience within the landscaping, agriculture or horticulture industries, 3 of which must have been in a management role
  • Strong interest in plants native to the northeastern United States and basic ecological processes
  • Strong knowledge of nursery operations, plant care, and landscaping products
  • Proven track record of driving sales growth and operational efficiency
  • Computer skills and proficiency with business management software as well as Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • Reside in, or be willing to relocate to, a 50-mile radius of NYC
  • Ability to travel regularly to our growing site in NJ and throughout our service area as needed
  • Occasional overnight travel, both local and international
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed)

Physical Demands and Work Environment. This is an indoor/outdoor job with physical requirements, including:

  • Frequent climbing, bending, stooping and other activities required to safely and effectively navigate growing sites
  • Frequent hand motion with use and viewing of phones, keyboards and computers
  • Frequent standing or sitting for long periods of time to perform various office duties
  • Occasional carrying and lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, and varying external temperatures and weather conditions
