 Compensation: $90,000-$110,000

This role supervises the operation of a greenhouse, vegetable garden, flower farm, and aids in the production and harvest of flowers, orchard fruit trees, nut trees, and fruiting shrubs. Additionally, the role will oversee composting operations and tool and machine maintenance (including a small tractor).

The farm program is under development and we would like to have an individual join before construction is complete to aid in farm planning and commercialization. The main responsibilities will focus on supporting the seed to harvest growing of vegetables and cut flowers via greenhouse growing, raised bed and flower field farming, and the associated harvesting, processing, and storing tasks. The Farm Manager will use their expertise to plan and operate in a flexible, dynamic and positive environment.

There is some flexibility in this position depending on the applicant’s experience and interests, horticulturally speaking. For example, some level of seed production experience is necessary, but
orcharding experience would be a bonus.

Responsibilities/Duties

• Manage one gardener to assist with all aspects of farm operation
• Plan all crop and growing schedules, keep records, organize information
• Oversee greenhouse environment (cleaning, sanitizing, climate controls, IPM)
• Produce vegetables and cut flowers from planning to seed to field production to harvest and storage/processing
• Knowledge of overall vegetable and flower production and upkeep tasks
• Gain familiarity with the diverse fruiting and nut-bearing trees and shrubs, assist with maintenance as needed, manage harvest and processing
• Maintain tools and equipment, arrange for service for tractor when needed
• Manage composting systems (raised barrels for food waste, 3 bin system for landscape debris)
• Manage a small chicken coop
• Manage general farm maintenance
• Order materials as needed
• Additional miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

• 5 plus years professional experience in any of the following fields: vegetable or flower farming, gardening (estate especially), greenhouse, orcharding. Significant home experience considered on a case-by-case basis
• Ability to comfortably lift and carry at least 50lbs regularly
• Willingness to work in heat, around insects, in the rain or snow
• Strong organizational skills
• Drivers license required
• Punctual, hardworking and self-motivated
