Estate Gardener - Seasonal

Start Date: 03/10/25  Compensation: $25-$30/hr

Overview: 
This position is for a full-time, seasonal ornamental gardener on a private estate on Cape Cod. You would be joining our team of dedicated fine gardeners in maintaining the ornamental plantings on our extensive grounds. We strive to provide an exceptional level of gardening, with a focus on plant health, aesthetics, and attention to detail. We use organic horticultural practices, and are committed to ecologically sensitive land care practices, as well as fostering biodiversity in our plantings. 

Position description: 
Under the guidance of the Head Gardener and the general supervision of the Ornamental Crew Foreperson, the Ornamental Gardener performs gardening and related work on the grounds, specifically focusing on general maintenance of ornamental plantings including annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and turf. 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Engage in all aspects of horticulture on the grounds, including planting, cultivating, watering, fertilizing, pruning, weeding, mulching, deadheading, staking, and caring for annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and turf.
  • Operate and maintain hand and power gardening tools and small equipment.
  • Perform general landscape maintenance, such as raking, leaf removal, blowing/sweeping of hardscape, power washing/scrubbing of hardscape, and litter removal.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Experience in groundskeeping, gardening, landscaping, or related fields
  • Knowledge of plant types, plant care, and plant cultivation
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of gardening tools and equipment
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive pickup truck on and off estate property
  • Experience with small equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to lift objects of various shapes and sizes weighing 40lbs or more
  • Ability to bend, crouch, and lift for multiple hours a day
  • Ability to work both individually and collaboratively
