Compensation: $25-$29

We are a well- established company in New York City and are seeking an Associate Horticulturist. This position will coordinate and oversee the care of the gardens and projects under the direction and supervision of project managers. This position will be responsible for the training and development of other department members, as well as carrying out day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate must have over 3 years of experience in a related field.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Assist management in creating and coordinating schedules for executing projects, including materials, personnel and equipment
  • Work in collaboration with the internal team and clients to coordinate the execution of projects
  • Manage all aspects of material allocation, installation and execution of work ensuring company and client quality standards are met
  • Manage all gardening services, including the coordination of all materials, crew, equipment, and subcontractors required
  • Maintain and manage all required administrative systems, including but not limited to time sheets, service schedules, and service notes
  • Inspect properties, consult management, and prepare a detailed action plan for service
  • Perform hands on work with crew to meet scheduling demands
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing work schedules
  • Able to identify and evaluate plants, recommend treatment options
  • Observe and document garden condition and maintenance information
  • Plant Maintenance: Perform and oversee garden work including planting, weeding, pruning, deadheading, training vines, and trimming shrubs, trees, flowers, and other flora
  • Garden Maintenance: Cleaning up debris, general landscaping, mulching, digging, planting, fertilizing, applying pesticides/ fungicides
  • After installation and services, monitor all aspects of the garden and identify any problems
  • Uphold and follow company procedures and protocol
  • Familiarity with mobile tools and applications
  • Enter field work information into web-based databases in a timely manner after service is completed

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Degree in Horticulture OR related field experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of plants and landscape practices
  • Able to work independently, but also a collaborative team player and committed to maintaining positive engagements with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to perform physical labor and to lift up to 60 lbs
  • Able to travel to multiple job sites throughout NYC

Preferred:

  • Live within comfortable commuting distance to our office in West Midtown NYC
  • Interior plant maintenance knowledge A PLUS!
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license A PLUS!
  • Experience in irrigation and/ or lighting A PLUS!
  • Licensed pesticides applicator A PLUS!
  • Bilingual - Spanish speaking A PLUS!
