The Journey of New Plant Introductions: A Behind-the-Scenes Look, Ryan McEnaney, Marketing & Communications Manager, Bailey Nurseries
Ever wonder where your favorite new plant came from or how it got its name? Join us for an exclusive look behind the scenes at that journey with garden designer, author, and fifth-generation nurseryman Ryan McEnaney. He'll share the process from Bailey Nurseries, his family's wholesale nursery, of new introductions from natural discovery and breeding work, through nursery production, into the marketing funnel, and ultimately into the landscape. Many of these plants end up in their proprietary brands Endless Summer® Hydrangeas, First Editions® Shrubs & Trees, and Easy Elegance® Roses. In addition to learning this process, Ryan will provide attendees with his favorite new plant introductions, what makes them unique, and why they deserve a place in the landscape (including examples in New York-area public gardens); their care and where you might source them in the New York tri-state region.
Ryan McEnaney is a fifth-generation family member leading Marketing at Bailey Nurseries, as well as a garden designer and author. He also serves as spokesperson for Bailey’s consumer brands: Endless Summer® Hydrangeas, First Editions® Shrubs & Trees, and Easy Elegance® Roses. Ryan is passionate about connecting people to nature and encouraging home gardeners to enjoy digging in the dirt. He travels the country educating homeowners on how to be successful in the garden and has been featured in publications such as Better Homes & Gardens, HGTV Magazine, Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple, and more. Ryan's approach revolves around making gardening fun, breaking down barriers, and creating a welcoming space to collaborate. His first book, “Field Guide to Outside Style,” helps home gardeners discover their own style for designing their outdoor space.
