Seiko Goto - Chinese & Japanese Gardens: Similarities and Differences

The Japanese imported their garden tradition from China, but although Chinese and Japanese gardens may be similar in form, their use and the aesthetics can be very different. Seiko Goto will discuss these cultural and philosophical differences from the Japanese point of view. Seiko Goto is the author of The Japanese Garden: Gateway to the Human Spirit, a textbook on the history of Japanese gardens. She has an MA in Landscape Architecture from Harvard, a Ph.D in the history of Japanese Gardens from Chiba University. She currently teaches in the department of Landscape Architecture at Rutgers.
