Metro Hort Group Professional Development Grant Program
The Board of Directors of Metro Hort Group is proud to announce the Metro Hort Professional Development Grants Program.
Program Goals
The purpose of this program is to award at least one recipient the cost of a course or educational conference each year. The grant program is to support continuing education and professional development of Metro Hort Group members.
Eligibility
To apply, program applicants must:
- • Be a current member Metro Hort Group
- • Submit a completed application including essay of no more than 200 words
- • Submit a letter of recommendation on company letterhead from an individual in the green industry
- • Board members of Metro Hort Group are not eligible to apply to the program.
Deadline to Apply
Applications will be accepted through November 30, 2022. Awards will be announced at Plant-O-Rama on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Download Application HERE
Rules
- Each year the Metro Hort Group Executive Committee will announce the total dollar amount of the grant. (2 grants of up to $1,000 each for 2023). Applications can be submitted from the day of announcement through midnight on November 30th of a given year for courses to be taken or conferences to be attended during the following calendar year.
- Applicants can apply for a portion of or the entire amount of the grant dollars available. Unused funds will be returned to the Grant Program for the following year.
- Awards will be paid directly to the course/conference provider.
- Recipients must provide proof of completion/attendance to the Metro Hort Group at scholarships.metrohort@yahoo.com by the 31st of December in the same year that the award was received by each recipient. If the class is not completed or conference attended, the recipient is responsible to return the full amount of the reward to Metro Hort Group.
- Award decisions will be based on relevance to metro area horticulture, financial need, scholarship and the essay.
- The purpose of this grant program is to award at least one recipient each year reimbursement for the cost of a course or educational conference. Recipient costs related to travel, food and lodging at conferences or seminars is not covered grant award.
- This award has no cash value and is nontransferable.
- Applicants must be a member of Metro Hort Group in order to receive reimbursement funds.
Applicants are required to submit a short essay answering the following question: “How will this course improve my role in the green industry?” All essays must be original and created by the applicant. Essays must not incorporate or include anything that violates any copyright, trademark, publicity right, privacy right or any other right of any third party. By applying to this program, all applicants accept any and all release stipulations from Metro Hort Group to publish content from the applicant's essay, as well as applicant’s name, city and state.
Please note: Applicants do not have to be recipients of the grant for their information to be used for the purpose of marketing or promotions.
