Planting for the Future
Kelly D. Norris believes that modern landscapes have to be more than beautiful. He challenges horticulture professionals to plant more diversely and design with style in ecologically sound ways. Gardening for multiple purposes and populations in a challenging environment is the new normal for the 21st century American garden.
Kelly is the first director of horticulture at Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, a newly revitalized 14-acre public garden. He holds both undergraduate and master’s degrees in horticulture from Iowa State University. Kelly’s first book A Guide to Bearded Irises: Cultivating the Rainbow for Beginners and Enthusiasts won the 2013 American Horticultural Society Book Award. His current book, Plants with Style (Timber Press, 2015) speaks to his mantra of gardening with purpose.

As correspondent for the PBS television show Growing A Greener World, Brie has developed strategies for growing edibles practically and efficiently in smaller spaces. Brie is a young professional garden industry communicator committed to all things horticultural. She studied Landscape Design at Purdue University and has worked at Plant Delights and Camellia Forest Nurseries. On her TV show, Brie shares practical advice from her one-acre suburban North Carolina garden. Her forthcoming book, The Foodscape Revolution, published by St Lynn’s Press, debuts in March 2017.
