Peter Del Tredici - Wild Urban Plants

MHG Meetings

Sponsored By: Metro Hort Group

Peter Del Tredici will explore the nature of the modern urban/suburban environment and the ways in which it is changing in response to increased population growth and economic expansion. He will discuss the spread of invasive species across the landscape as a symptom of ongoing, large scale environmental degradation, rather than its cause. Peter will also attempt to define an approach to the problem that focuses on rebuilding the ecological functionality of cities rather than on restoring past ecosystems that no longer exist. Peter Del Tredici has worked at the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard Univer sity since 1979. Formerly the Director of Living Collections and editor of Arnoldia, he is now Senior Research Scientist and Curator of the Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection.
