Jamie Boyer - Annual Meeting, Lecture and Holiday Pot Luck
MHG Meetings
Sponsored By: Metro Hort Group
Join Jamie Boyer, Vice President for Children’s Education at the New York Botanical Garden, for a journey through the geologic history of plants. From the earliest moss-sized plants that ventured onto land, to the first swamps and forests on Earth, plants have shown an amazing ability to adapt and survive environmental changes throughout time. Jamie will explore the world of plants that existed before the dawn of flowering plants; highlighting some the extraordinary evolutionary events that occurred during this time, including the origin of leaves, roots, wood and seeds, as well as major extinctions that changed the world.
Jamie Boyer is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Vice President for Children’s Education, overseeing all aspects of the Garden’s children’s, family, teen, and teacher programs and staff. He holds an M.S. from Southern Illinois University in Botany, and a Ph.D. from SUNY-Binghamton, where he studied the relationship between the development and evolution of ancient land plants.
