Heidi Hesselein

New and Garden-Worthy Ornamentals and Perennials

At Pleasant Run Nursery, Heidi Hesselein is constantly searching for new options for quality, function, and beauty, as well as emphasizing the strengths of older “work horses” which may have disappeared from the current palette. A significant part of her mission is to educate the customer about garden-worthy natives and help them achieve more sustainable gardens through proper plant selection.

Heidi, a fourth generation nurserywoman, cofounded Pleasant Run Nursery with her husband Richard Hesselein in 1998 with the goal of growing rare, new, and unusual woodies, perennials, grasses, ferns and groundcovers. Their years of nursery experience in California and at Princeton Nurseries have enabled them to expand the production to 1200 species to date. Heidi lectures at trade shows, garden clubs, and botanical gardens.
