GARDEN/CON 2019: A Peer-to Peer Workshop in Business Development for NYC-Based Landscape Designers

About

Join us for a day of hands-on workshopping, information-sharing and brainstorming about the business side of owning and operating a landscape design business in NYC. Together, we’ll create a supportive and resource-rich space intended to strengthen our individual businesses and build a stronger peer community in the industry.

Garden/Con 2019 is taking place the week after MetroHort’s presentation “The Business of Horticulture: Starting, Running, and Growing Your Own Plant-centric Business.” At our event, we’ll springboard off this presentation with interactive roundtables, breakout sessions, one-on-one sharing, and group brainstorming. We’ll tackle and actively work through the most challenging questions we face as individual business owners, and build connections that we can call on as we continue developing our careers.

Let’s enjoy ourselves, improve our businesses, and prepare for Spring 2019!

Potential Discussion Topics

● How do we create a schedule of fees and a payscale that is fair and consistent for our clients, contractors, colleagues, employees, our businesses and ourselves as owners/directors?

● How do we find/create systems that optimize our resources (time, labor, input, etc.)?

● How do we attract and retain the best employees, given the challenges of training, insurance, PTO, worker’s comp, seasonality, client scheduling and the dreaded 1099 vs. W-2 question?

● What savings and investment plans are best suited for small business owners?

Registration: Open through February 10. $20 suggested donation to help with refreshments. No one turned away for lack of funds.
