Effective Hiring Strategies

This workshop is designed for small business owners and will focus on strategies to overcome common challenges in recruitment, hiring, and retention challenges in the horticulture industry. We will also cover how to write job descriptions that match each role’s needs.

We will talk about the key skills needed for each job. We will also discuss why job descriptions matter for several important tasks:

  • Recruitment
  • Creating interview rubrics
  • Developing onboarding and training sessions
  • Performance reviews

You will receive some pre-work two weeks before the workshop.

Registration is required for this workshop. We have space for only 20 participants.

Featured speakers

Erin Eck
Director of Continuing Education, Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Erin Eck is the director of Continuing Education at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and has been teaching at the Garden since 2018.

Erin has a background in public horticulture and was a gardener at the High Line for nearly six years. She began her career in urban gardening as a research assistant studying soil health in NYC’s community gardens. Erin is a co-lead of the Forest for All NYC coalition’s workforce development action team. In this capacity, she has planned and co-facilitated workshops on best hiring practices.

Erin holds a Master of Environmental Science degree from the Yale School of the Environment.
