Summary of Responsibilities:
Private property in Bedford NY seeks experienced gardener. This position will be responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of the variety of gardens and greenhouses including: the vegetable and perennial gardens, orchards, boxwoods, tropical plant collection, orchids, woodland plantings, shrubs and tree care maintenance.
- Monitor greenhouse conditions and maintain the greenhouse collection which includes a wide range of tropicals including assorted citrus, begonias, palms, ferns and succulents.
- Identify tree care issues and work with contracted Arboriculturalist’s to ensure that existing and new trees are maintained in a healthy and safe condition.
- Practice organic gardening and environmentally-friendly horticulture including staying informed on new trends and methods.
- Ensures the fertilization and maintenance of all gardens, trees, plants, shrubs and hedge material.
- Ensure garden tools and supplies are available, used properly, organized, and well-maintained.
- Maintain files and records of trees and plants, including keeping records of fertilizers and inventories used.
Requirements:
- Minimum two-year technical degree in horticulture.
- A strong work ethic.
- A Valid Driver’s License.
- Work alternate weekends and holidays to cover greenhouses and gardens.
- Provide excellent recent work references.
- Computer literate.
