The Cloisters Museum & Gardens Field Trip
A Tour of the Cloisters and the Heather Garden at Fort Tryon Park
The Cloisters
The gardens of the Cloisters Museum, planted in reconstructed Romanesque and Gothic cloisters, evoke those that provided sustenance and spiritual refreshment within the medieval monastery. The plants grown in them are drawn from a working list of more than 400 species known and used in the Middle Ages. Deirdre Larkin, who has worked with the gardens at the Cloisters for 18 years, will take us around.
The Heather Garden & Alpine Garden at Fort Tryon Park
Jennifer Hoppa, Administrator of Northern Manhattan Parks, will lead a tour of the 3 acre heath and heather garden, and introduce the newly re-discovered Alpine Garden, all set in the Olmstead Brothers 67 acre park overlooking the Hudson River.
