Inside and Outside the Box
Ms Filippone will speak about the many uses of Boxwood with special emphasis on the importance of proper care. Through her experience of collecting in the wild as well as growing and researching many different cultivars at her nursery, she has come to prefer organic methods. She uses no toxic chemical pesticides or synthetic high nitrogen fertilizers in her nursery and will discuss cultural practice and plant selection as key factors in dealing with pest and disease issues such as cylindrocladium pseudonaviculatum commonly known as boxwood blight. Andrea J. Filippone is Landscape Designer/Partner for F2 Environmental Design, bringing together the finest elements of design with ecologically sound scientific practice. Ms. Filippone, a Watson Fellow, and former instructor at the Harvard
University Graduate School of Design, has spent most of her career working in architecture and interior design. In the past ten years, she has started a boxwood nursery of more than 50 cultivars and now spends most of her time defining structure and space in the outdoor environment.
